ADDITIONAL HOMEWORK FOR MY THURSDAY NIGHT MANDARIN I CLASS, TO DO ASAP!!!

Hi Gang,

One student in class was kind enough to find and forward the following link for the audio that is designed to accompany the introduction of our textbook -- in other words, all of the pronunciation and tones mp3s. Please find these at the top of the following link under TEXTBOOK AUDIO (Intro).

http://web.uri.edu/llrc/chinese-lesson-1-part-1-intro/

Please listen to and download these audio examples from either this site or from iTunes (I just verified that the entire book's 3 CDs' worth of audio is again a free iTunes download this year -- look it up and find it if you like). You may also Google "Integrated Chinese Level 1 Part 1 Third Edition audio" and find other sources as well. One student this past Saturday in my 2 hour Intro Workshop found another version of the complete Third Edition L1P1 audio for free download within 5 seconds of pressing enter on Google on his smartphone.

The important thing is to DOWNLOAD THESE MP3s ASAP -- all of you -- before any of the sites offering them for free is taken down by the university posting the files, or by iTunes -- in case that might happen.

Even more important than downloading the mp3s, though is THIS:

The link that I have just provided for The University of Rhode Island's Language Learning Resource Center has also posted for its students THE COMPLETE DVD VIDEO FILES DESIGNED TO GO WITH YOUR TEXTBOOK!!! These files may be found by scrolling to the bottom of the screen for the link provided above.

I have verified that all files are downloadable and play perfectly. Simply right click each file one at a time starting with Lesson 1 Dialogue 1 and continuing to the bottom of the video list: Lesson 10's Culture Moment. Select "save link as" and then save each video file to the appropriate folder on your hard drive. You don't need the title screen or the credits at the beginning of the video list unless you want them.

THE MOST IMPORTANT PART OF YOUR HOMEWORK FOR THIS WEEK AND NEXT IS TO DOWNLOAD ALL VIDEO FILES FOR THE ENTIRE BOOK ASAP AND SAVE THEM TO YOUR HARD DRIVE, TABLET, LAPTOP, MAC, WHATEVER. THE DVD FOR THIS BOOK COSTS $75 AND BY DOWNLOADING AND SAVING THESE FILES, EACH OF YOU WILL HAVE AN AMAZING RESOURCE THAT WAS NOT AVAILABLE TO OUR PROGRAM IN YEARS PAST!!!

Because URI is providing these video links for free until they decide to take them down, I will be using them all year for the rest of this year and assigning them as homework for every single dialogue that we will cover this year. In other words, for each dialogue starting with Lesson 1 Dialogue 1, in addition to learning from the book in class, I will be requiring all of you to watch and study the short videos for each dialogue, continuing through every dialogue that we cover until June.

SO, please download these ASAP in case they are taken down

When I ask for a show of hands in 2 weeks (a week from tomorrow), I will expect EVERY SINGLE STUDENT IN MY CLASS to have downloaded all video files for the book.

I WILL ALSO EXPECT EVERY SINGLE STUDENT IN MY CLASS TO HAVE LOCATED THE COMPLETE FREE AUDIO FILES FOR YOUR TEXTBOOK ONLINE, TO HAVE DOWNLOADED THEM, AND TO HAVE BEGUN LISTENING TO THEM MULTIPLE TIMES EACH WEEK STARTING ASAP.

Please do this. Please do NOT flake on me or on yourself. I had an issue earlier this week with only 1/3 of my Cantonese class reading my blog and doing their homework. That is absolutely piss poor and is completely unacceptable. Please do not make me babysit you guys this year. I don't enjoy chastising my students!

Thanks in advance and see you all in class.

😸
